COR solo, Jailer of Fortitude

Okay, so technically, I didn't solo. I had a SMN friend with me, but she only used Nether Blast to help me take Fort down faster. She never held it, I tanked/kited and DD'd the entire time. I don't really have the time to solo this, but just showing you guys that it's possible.

Also, I think COR is the only job in the game that can solo Fort. At last, something we can solo.

If I knew how to make videos, I would be happy to do so. Maybe someone can help me with that. I'm not quite sure if by saying "a screenshot doesn't really say much" you mean you don't believe me, or the screenshot doesn't say anything about how it was done. In the first case, I don't really have any reason to lie about this, I'm just trying to make some more people aware of what a COR can do.

It's a really easy fight, and I just applied the concept of COR DD through Quick Draw into a tanking role. You need W. Legs for this to work, otherwise you won't outrun Fort or maybe a few mobs you might aggro. Basically, I popped Fort in one tower and ran him to another. By then, the Kf'ghrahs actually lost interest and moved back to the original spawn point, and any other aggro I picked up along the way had been lost. I was now able to kite Fort around another tower, free from his pets.

Now you just spam Quick Draw. It goes right through reflect (as did Nether Blast) so it's a great way to deal magic damage while his reflect is still up. I also put a lot of gear swaps in my macros to make sure my character blinked out before every JA, that way the animation wouldn't slow me down and close the distance between Fort and myself.

In actuality, this same method can be used by a COR to solo any mob in the game, as long as that enemy doesn't have enhanced movement speed (and in some cases, may still be possible.) While it's not a very efficient way to kill things, as it takes so long to wear something down, it just so happens that it's one of the most effective ways to kill Fort.

I'm looking to apply this same concept in other areas of the game, but so far I've only come up with solo tanking Jailer of Prudence while my alliance wears down the Hpemde's other half. I'm not quite sure how well it will work, but I'm definitely going to give it a shot.

He's saying he does it on BLM, which means thats not true.

But thats an awesome accompishment nonetheless! If I was a few levels higher and had the patience I would definately give it a try.

So you kited in wyrmal legs the entire time, (stopping only for Utsu Ni?), blinking a visible armor piece every 50-60 seconds to use a damage Quick Draw without the animation delay? I'm surprised he didn't hit you at all with anything, apparently. At least in my mind this, to some degree at least, makes wyrmal legs/skadi jambeaux more valuable to a COR, just to know the possibilities. Nice job.

I admit I may have been a little premature when I stated no other jobs could solo Fortitude, I just couldn't imagine it being done since Fort has reflect and a high physical resistance, both of which are surpassed by Quick Draw. If a BLM can solo Fort too, I'd love to know how it's done.

Mostly, however, I posted this for CORs who are still interested in pushing the job to its limits, putting it in unconventional roles and seeing how it performs. COR seems to fill a tanking/kiting position rather nicely. Unlike PLD, COR does not have to stop moving to use a hate-claiming ability (referring to Flash, not Sentinel or Rampart.) Unlike NIN, COR can move with enhanced speed full-time.

Although COR has a few niches in a tanking role, the hate-gaining abilities don't come close to what a PLD/NIN can use, nor do they have the 30 second timer of Provoke (versus a 1 minute Quick Draw) on a NIN/WAR. While I'm certain a COR/NIN won't hold hate amongst a group of damage dealers, I do believe it's sufficient to hold an enemy on their own and still have room for a few cures from a WHM, if necessary.

As I said before, I'm not quite sure where else this can be used, but I think it's an interesting application of the job. I also feel I should note that Quick Draw gives 0 TP, so a COR doesn't have to worry about a kited enemy using TP moves unless it has an auto TP regain or the COR is being hit without shadows.

BLM/NIN can cast what they like, though it would probably need gaiters. Bio2, for a start.

As far as I knew, the grah did not lose aggro unless they pulled away from Fortitude. How did you get them to leave you alone/de aggro?

You zoned them solo or duo?

The problem with them is that they share hate and even if you -ga them to pull them away, they generally stay with Fortitude upon popping. So how did you seperate them if you solo'd/duo'd??
